Anyone can do this, but most won't.#

I’ll treat the thread as the primary source, separate each claim from inference/rhetoric, then test factual claims against independent sources and theological claims against the KJV text. I’ll also flag persuasion tactics and psychological mechanisms without diagnosing anonymous posters.

/x/ - Around 50 years ago a program run by the CIA devel - Paranormal - 4chan

The thread is short enough to analyze exhaustively: it runs from OP No. 43004275 through the visible replies ending at No. 43009029 on September 26, 2026. Two immediate strengths of the discussion are worth preserving: several replies correctly challenge the mechanism from inside its own logic (“how does the torturer remember?”; “how do you know any of this?”), and the OP’s CIA premise has a real historical backdrop—but that backdrop does not itself establish the claimed “X-pad.”

Soli Deo Gloria. I pulled the live thread itself and treated it as evidence for what was posted—not as evidence that the underlying allegations happened. I also checked the CIA/Senate record, current U.S. interrogation law, neuroscience of memory and RF exposure, hypnosis/false-memory research, the Tim Rifat provenance, beamforming physics, and the supplied Pure Cambridge KJV.

Research cutoff: September 26, 2026, through post No. 43009029. The thread begins September 24 with the claimed CIA “X-pad” and, at the time reviewed, contains no documents, names of programs, device photographs, technical specifications, patents, declassified files, named witnesses, or independently corroborated cases establishing that such a device exists. boards.4chan.org

1. Methodology: what would actually prove this?#

There are five layers here that should never be blended.

THREAD: what an anonymous poster says. A 4chan post proves that the allegation was posted.

HISTORY: what CIA records, congressional investigations, statutes, archival records, and other dated primary material establish.

SCIENCE: whether the claimed mechanism corresponds to demonstrated neuroscience and physics.

PSYCHOLOGY: why a narrative may feel compelling. This cannot tell us that an anonymous poster is mentally ill, lying, or sincere.

SCRIPTURE: what the biblical text actually teaches. Scripture gives standards for testimony, truth, fear, and discernment; it does not name “X-pads,” microwaves, the CIA, or modern neuromodulation.

The governing biblical rule is unusually exact:

“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:21

That wording is in the supplied Pure Cambridge Edition. The Holy Bible King James Versi…

Proverbs supplies the complementary safeguard: “He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him,” followed by, “He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.” The Holy Bible King James Versi…

That means we should neither say, “The CIA has never done anything like this, therefore impossible,” nor, “MKULTRA was real, therefore X-pads are real.”

Those are opposite versions of the same bad inference.

2. OP No. 43004275: line-by-line#

The OP makes about nine separable claims in lines 48–55. boards.4chan.org

Claim A: about fifty years ago the CIA ran a program that produced revolutionary secret technology#

There is a substantial kernel of documented history here.

CIA behavioral-control programs really existed. The 1977 Senate MKULTRA hearing documented 149 MKULTRA subprojects, including research involving drugs, unwitting human subjects, hypnosis, sleep, behavioral modification, electroshock, harassment techniques, and other areas. The Senate record also says MKULTRA's explored avenues included “radiation” alongside electroshock and several behavioral sciences. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence

The surviving historical record is especially disturbing because some experiments involved people who did not know they were experimental subjects. The program's documentation was also severely compromised: CIA records state that MKULTRA materials were destroyed in January 1973, and the Senate record describes that destruction. CIA

So a correction saying “CIA mind-control research never happened” would itself be false.

But that only establishes the antecedent:

Documented: the CIA investigated behavioral modification and unconventional interrogation.

It does not establish the consequent:

Unproven: that these investigations produced a room-scale device which selectively prevents the formation of memories.

That missing bridge is the thread's central evidentiary problem.

I also searched the 173-page Senate MKULTRA record specifically. “Radiation” appears; “microwave” does not appear in the searchable text. More importantly, the record does not document anything matching the described X-pad mechanism. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence

Claim B: the devices are nicknamed “X-pads”#

This is presently unsupported.

Searches for “X-pad,” “X-pads,” CIA, hippocampus, memory, microwave, and related combinations produced unrelated commercial/technical uses of “X-PAD”—handheld terminals, audio systems, surveying software, broadcasting terminology—but no corroborating CIA program or device corresponding to the OP's description. ManualsLib

That proves neither that a classified nickname could never exist nor that every secret program must appear on Google.

It does mean that the OP has supplied no independently checkable provenance for the name.

A strong disclosure claim should ideally supply something falsifiable: a document number, contractor, facility, laboratory, date, engineering specification, participant, procurement record, codeword history, or physical artifact.

None appears.

Claim C: a “specific frequency” blocks the brain from making new memories#

This is where the thread shifts from plausible historical background into a precise scientific assertion.

There is a genuine neurological phenomenon called anterograde amnesia: impaired ability to form new memories following an injury or disturbance. The hippocampus and connected medial-temporal/diencephalic structures are critically involved in forming new episodic memories. Merck Manuals

But that does not validate the claimed mechanism.

Modern neuroscience does not describe memory formation as one radio-like “memory-retention frequency” that can simply be jammed. Human memory involves distributed cellular plasticity, hippocampal-cortical interactions, multiple oscillatory bands, encoding processes, retrieval processes, and different memory systems. Theta and gamma oscillations participate in memory, but studies find a complicated interaction of multiple rhythms rather than a universal carrier frequency whose cancellation switches memory off. PubMed

That distinction matters:

“Neural oscillations have frequencies” ≠ “memory is stored on a frequency.”

The latter is an analogy to radio communications being substituted for demonstrated neurobiology.

Claim D: the device “drowns the hippocampus in noise,” while current activity remains intact#

This uses genuine vocabulary—hippocampus, neurons, short-term memory, noise—but the causal mechanism is not supplied.

The hippocampus does not operate as a digital spam filter which observes a noisy data stream, concludes “invalid memory,” and deletes it. That language anthropomorphizes complex biological consolidation.

The relevant real concept is that severe hippocampal dysfunction can produce profound difficulty making new declarative/episodic memories while leaving some abilities intact. Famous amnesic cases demonstrate exactly why anterograde amnesia is scientifically plausible as a syndrome. PubMed

But the clinical existence of a syndrome does not demonstrate the thread's proposed method of inducing it.

It is equivalent to arguing:

  1. paralysis is real;
  2. electricity affects muscles;
  3. therefore a rumored wireless paralysis box exists.

Premises 1 and 2 can both be true without establishing 3.

Claim E: you function normally inside the field, then lose everything after leaving it#

This is an especially testable part of the claim—and one of its weakest.

Severe anterograde amnesia does not generally mean a person behaves entirely normally for an extended episode and then has every experience silently disappear only upon crossing a geographical boundary.

Patients with marked inability to form new episodic memories commonly exhibit obvious ongoing consequences: repetitive questioning and inability to retain recent developments are classic manifestations of transient global amnesia, for example. Merck Manuals

Working memory can certainly persist briefly despite impaired long-term encoding. An amnesic person can converse or hold information temporarily.

But the OP needs something much stronger:

normal complex interrogation behavior + coherent continuous interaction + selective later loss + spatially instantaneous onset/offset.

That exact package is not established by citing the existence of the hippocampus.

Claim F: memory works like a RAM-only operating system#

Useful analogy; bad literal model.

Memory consolidation is not simply:

RAM for 12 hours → one-time write to permanent storage.

Synaptic consolidation begins on shorter timescales—minutes to hours—while systems-level reorganization can extend across days or weeks. Even brief periods of waking rest can influence consolidation. PubMed Central (PMC)

So the computer analogy captures one limited truth—that temporarily available information can fail to become durable memory—but becomes misleading when treated as the actual architecture.

Claim G: politicians, leaders, CEOs and generals were tortured inside these rooms and afterward remembered nothing#

This is an extraordinary historical allegation with zero case documentation supplied.

The OP names no victim.

No location.

No date.

No interrogator.

No leak.

No medical record.

No legal proceeding.

No procurement record.

No declassified document.

No contractor.

No technical manual.

That distinguishes it sharply from MKULTRA itself. We know MKULTRA happened precisely because there are surviving records, financial documentation, testimony, institutional connections and congressional investigations—even though many records were destroyed. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence

The thread instead moves from:

intelligence agencies have secretly abused people

to:

therefore this particular undocumented abuse technology has been used against an enormous elite population.

The first proposition increases the prior plausibility of institutional misconduct. It does not supply evidence for the second proposition.

Claim H: X-pads are completely integrated into U.S. “enhanced interrogation techniques”#

This clashes with the known public record.

The CIA's post-9/11 Detention and Interrogation Program and its “enhanced interrogation techniques” are real historical subjects. The Senate Intelligence Committee's investigation covered 119 CIA detainees and states that the program officially ended January 22, 2009. The committee also concluded that the enhanced techniques were not an effective means of obtaining reliable intelligence and documented instances of detainees providing fabricated information. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence

More importantly, this is not merely a matter of an old executive policy. Current U.S. statutory text, shown as in effect in September 2026, restricts covered U.S.-government interrogations to techniques authorized by the Army Field Manual and requires the manual's techniques not to involve the use or threat of force. Separate federal law prohibits cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment. U.S. Code

That does not prove a government employee could never violate the law secretly.

It does directly refute the OP's presentation of such a technology as something publicly or legally “completely integrated” into present U.S. interrogation doctrine.

If the claim instead becomes “it is an illegal black program hidden from all oversight,” the evidentiary burden becomes greater, not smaller.

Claim I: the X-pad is always on, perhaps because it is chemical or elemental#

This creates new physical problems without solving the old ones.

“Always on” is not itself a mechanism. A continuously radiating field requires an energy source unless the claim invokes some radioactive or other persistent physical process. A chemical reaction likewise consumes reactants.

More importantly, the OP has changed explanatory domains:

specific electromagnetic frequency → perhaps chemical/elemental reaction.

Those are not interchangeable explanations.

A chemically induced amnestic drug would involve pharmacokinetics and exposure pathways.

An electromagnetic emitter would require frequency, field strength, geometry, power, absorption and tissue interaction.

Ionizing radiation presents another entirely different mechanism.

Combining the words “chemical,” “element,” and “frequency” does not produce a technical explanation.

Claim J: anybody who sees the machine forgets it, which explains why nobody can expose it#

This is the most important logical problem in the entire thread.

The proposed mechanism explains away the absence of witnesses by making the absence of witnesses a predicted feature of the conspiracy.

But then OP says somebody nevertheless knows about it.

That raises exactly the question later asked in No. 43007170: how does the source know? boards.4chan.org

Any serious version needs an information pathway:

Was the informant told outside the field?

Did engineers build it remotely?

Are written records made outside the affected zone?

How do technicians perform maintenance?

How was its memory-blocking effect experimentally measured if observers forget experimentation?

How do interrogators know what happened?

How do operators remember procedures?

How did the anonymous source learn both its history and neuroscience?

Without such answers, the explanation becomes epistemically asymmetric:

forgetting proves X-pad exposure; remembering does not disprove it.

That is dangerous reasoning because no imaginable observation can count against the theory.

Philosophers and psychologists have studied these kinds of “self-insulating” belief structures, although scholars also caution that not every conspiracy allegation should automatically be dismissed as self-sealing. Particular conspiracies need to be judged on their particular evidence. Cambridge University Press

That qualification matters enormously because real conspiracies exist.

3. Post No. 43004313: the Tim Rifat passage#

This reply introduces the closest thing the thread has to a source. It describes microwave interference with short-to-long-term memory, a roughly twelve-hour transfer window, assassin “brain wiping,” and later hypnosis. boards.4chan.org

I traced the wording.

It circulates as a passage attributed to Tim Rifat, and an online reproduction identifies its source as his 1999 piece Microwave Mind Control. The same cluster of claims appears in later reposts. Rifat also published Remote Viewing: The History and Science of Psychic Warfare and Spying in 1999. Jacobs Music

That establishes provenance, not validity.

There is a major difference between:

“Tim Rifat wrote this”

and

“controlled experiments demonstrated this.”

The thread supplies the former.

It does not supply the latter.

The twelve-hour claim is wrong as a general model#

Memory consolidation does not wait twelve hours and then convert the day's short-term memory wholesale into lifelong memory.

Synaptic consolidation unfolds over minutes to hours; systems consolidation involves longer reorganization over days to weeks. Memories also remain modifiable, can be forgotten, and may undergo reconsolidation after retrieval. Nature

The phrase “after approximately twelve hours ... you remember this information for the rest of your life” is particularly incompatible with ordinary forgetting.

If that were the literal rule, everything successfully consolidated would become permanent.

Human memory plainly does not behave that way.

4. Can microwaves affect people at all?#

Yes—and this distinction is vital.

It would be incorrect to rebut the thread by claiming that electromagnetic energy cannot interact with the human body or brain.

It can.

There is a real microwave auditory/Frey effect, in which sufficiently intense pulsed RF energy produces an auditory sensation through thermoelastic mechanisms. The phenomenon has been experimentally demonstrated. A technical review notes, however, that practical high-power equipment can be large and conspicuous, and it does not thereby establish remote memory erasure. PubMed Central (PMC)

There are also genuine forms of non-invasive neuromodulation. Transcranial magnetic stimulation can modulate memory performance, with effects depending on target, timing, intensity and frequency. A systematic review of 59 TMS studies found complicated bidirectional effects rather than a universal memory-off frequency. PubMed

Focused ultrasound can reach deep structures including hippocampal networks, and current research explores its ability to modify brain function. That is ultrasound, not microwave radiation, and it uses purpose-built, targeted apparatus. PubMed

So “brain modulation at a distance is intrinsically science fiction” is not an adequate rebuttal.

The proper conclusion is narrower:

Real neuromodulation technology does not supply evidence for the specific X-pad described in the thread.

That difference is the heart of responsible fact-checking.

5. What does the RF research actually show about memory?#

A particularly useful 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis examined 76 human experimental studies, with quantitative analysis from 50 studies involving 2,433 participants.

Across the investigated cognitive domains, the researchers found that short-term RF electromagnetic exposure produced little to no reduction in cognitive performance, including tested verbal and visual memory outcomes, though some subdomains retained uncertainty because of study limitations. PubMed

A separate systematic review of longer-term human observational evidence likewise found little to no association across measured learning, memory, executive and attention outcomes, while emphasizing that the evidence base had limitations. PubMed

That literature cannot prove that every conceivable classified apparatus is impossible.

But it emphatically does not support the assertion that an already-developed “specific frequency” reliably creates total, reversible room-scale anterograde amnesia.

Those are enormously different effect sizes.

6. “Using hypnosis, false memories can then be planted”#

This part mixes a genuine psychological phenomenon with an exaggerated operational conclusion.

Memory is reconstructive, and misinformation or suggestion can create false recollections. Controlled studies have demonstrated false-memory induction under some conditions. PubMed

Hypnosis does not, however, work like a deterministic memory editor.

Reviews find that hypnotic procedures do not reliably increase accurate recall and can increase false recollection or confidence in inaccurate recollection. A 2025 research review likewise concluded that hypnosis had not enhanced accurate recall in the empirical studies examined and sometimes increased reports of events that never occurred. PubMed

So there is a true core:

suggestion can distort memory.

But this leap is unsupported:

therefore intelligence services can erase an assassination mission and seamlessly install a convincing fabricated life episode afterward.

Those are not equivalent claims.

7. Posts No. 43004355 and 43006731: the thread finds its own contradiction#

One reply asks why the operator is unaffected; another asks how the torturer remembers what he is doing if the device is continuously active. boards.4chan.org

These are strong objections because they do not require outside science.

They test internal consistency.

If the field fills a room and prevents new memory formation in any human brain within range, an interrogator standing beside the victim should suffer the same impairment.

That implies an additional mechanism:

shielding;

directionality;

operator exclusion zone;

individual targeting;

protective equipment;

or synchronized counter-fields.

None is supplied by the OP.

An explanation that needs a new invisible mechanism every time a contradiction appears is losing explanatory power.

8. No. 43008619: “noise cancellation,” multiple transmitters and beam steering#

A later poster tries to repair the problem by invoking destructive interference, spatial nulls, multiple emitters and modern radar beamforming. boards.4chan.org

This reply contains a real engineering principle.

Phased arrays can use controlled phase differences to steer electromagnetic beams, create constructive interference in chosen directions and nulls elsewhere. Beam/null steering is established radar and communications engineering. IEEE Technology Navigator

But again, the inference fails:

phased-array null steering exists

does not establish

a field can selectively disable human memory while leaving an interrogator a few feet away neurologically unaffected.

That would additionally require demonstrating:

the biological coupling mechanism;

necessary power density;

frequency and modulation parameters;

penetration through skull and tissue;

precise hippocampal targeting;

indoor multipath/reflection management;

movement compensation;

dose-response behavior;

lack of heating or collateral neurological effects;

and reproducible amnesia.

The poster provides none.

This is a recurring thread pattern: a real technology is attached to an undocumented biological capability.

9. No. 43006985: objection about “enhanced interrogation techniques” returning#

This poster is essentially correct that the OP's casual assertion collides with a major documented legal and political history. boards.4chan.org

The CIA interrogation program was investigated extensively by the Senate; Executive Order 13491 in 2009 revoked inconsistent CIA interrogation directives and restricted techniques, and Congress subsequently codified significant interrogation restrictions. whitehouse.gov

As of September 2026, the U.S. Code still contains the Army Field Manual limitation and prohibition on cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment. U.S. Code

Again, law does not guarantee compliance.

But a claim that this is a fully integrated government technique needs to reckon with the actual institutional record rather than merely invoking the phrase “enhanced interrogation.”

10. No. 43007170: “How do you know any of this?”#

This is arguably the thread's best post.

Not because skepticism automatically wins, but because it asks for the missing evidentiary bridge. boards.4chan.org

Every extraordinary investigative claim needs an answer to:

What observation would distinguish this story from something somebody invented?

For X-pads, potentially decisive evidence might include an authenticated classified manual later declassified, procurement records matching the physical device, technical documentation specifying the physiological effect, reproducible testing, independent witnesses with intersecting accounts, or an actual artifact subjected to examination.

None appears in the thread.

This corresponds closely to the biblical evidentiary principle:

“at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.”

That is Deuteronomy 19:15 in the supplied KJV. Its immediate legal context concerns accusations under Mosaic law, so it should not mechanically be turned into a modern laboratory rule. But the underlying Scriptural resistance to condemning people on unsupported solitary accusation is directly relevant. The Holy Bible King James Versi…

11. No. 43007583: Wi-Fi avatars, gangstalking and “third-eye” holograms#

This reply abruptly expands the narrative into remote Wi-Fi penetration, 3-D representations, round-the-clock gangstalking and holographic avatars supposedly delivered into a “third eye.” boards.4chan.org

There are real technologies that use radio signals for sensing, localization and in some circumstances coarse inference about human movement.

That reality does not establish the rest.

The post supplies no evidence that ordinary router access can “beam holographic avatars” into a person's perception, still less into a metaphysical “third eye.”

The important methodological point is not to diagnose the poster.

Psychology cannot legitimately tell us from one anonymous message whether the author is joking, role-playing, sincere, distressed, trolling, intoxicated, or describing personal experiences.

We can assess the claim without assessing the person.

That distinction is both scientifically and ethically important.

12. The reaction posts and memes#

Several replies are jokes: forgetting why one entered the room, forgetting why one opened the thread, mockery of the source, and other reaction images. The OP itself uses an image labeled as a mock “works cited,” visually implying drug use rather than actually supplying sources. 4chan

That image is rhetorically important.

It signals at least the possibility of irony, bait, collaborative fiction or deliberate shitposting.

It does not prove the OP is joking. Anonymous imageboard culture routinely mixes sincerity, irony and performance.

Accordingly, I would not attribute a settled motive to OP.

The proper statement is:

The thread's presentation contains obvious humorous/ironic cues, making authorial sincerity indeterminate.

13. Psychology: why this story is compelling even without proof#

This should never be used as “you believe conspiracies because psychology says you're irrational.”

That is both unfair and logically invalid.

Psychology explains tendencies in populations; it does not independently decide whether a particular conspiracy occurred.

There are nevertheless several useful mechanisms here.

Epistemic/existential motivation. A major review divides motives associated with conspiracy belief into epistemic needs to understand events, existential desires for security/control, and social motives. Importantly, the authors do not claim this means all conspiracy allegations are false. PubMed Central (PMC)

Pattern completion. Experimental work has found associations between illusory pattern perception and conspiracy/supernatural beliefs. When scattered facts exist—MKULTRA, secret programs, radio technology, hypnosis, amnesia—the mind is naturally tempted to assemble them into one coherent mechanism. PubMed

But:

MKULTRA + microwaves + hippocampus + hypnosis

is not itself a causal chain.

Every plus sign needs evidence.

Illusory truth through repetition. Repeated exposure can increase perceived truth even for misinformation. A 2026 meta-analysis across 182 studies and more than 31,000 participants found a small but robust repetition-induced truth effect, with substantial heterogeneity. PubMed

That is relevant to old “mind-control technology” texts that are copied from site to site. Ten webpages repeating Tim Rifat are not necessarily ten independent sources. They may be one source replicated ten times.

Monological reinforcement. Research has found that broader beliefs about official concealment can allow otherwise incompatible conspiracy claims to coexist because the common underlying proposition is “authorities are hiding the truth.” Sage Journals

Again, that is not proof that authorities never conceal things. MKULTRA itself proves that governments can conceal grave misconduct.

It is a warning that known concealment should not become a universal solvent that dissolves the burden of proof for every subsequent allegation.

14. The strongest steelman of the thread#

There actually is a serious version worth preserving.

A historically informed person could argue:

The CIA demonstrably investigated drugs, hypnosis, radiation, electroshock, behavioral modification and unconventional interrogation; records were destroyed; governments develop classified technology; the hippocampus is crucial to memory; artificial neuromodulation is real; RF energy can interact with biological tissue; phased arrays can steer electromagnetic energy; suggestion can produce false memories. Therefore, one should not dismiss out of hand the abstract possibility that secret research has investigated technological disruption of human memory. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence

That steelman is substantially better than ridicule.

But notice how modest its conclusion is:

such research is conceivable.

It does not yield:

the CIA built X-pads fifty years ago; they always work; they have been used on politicians and CEOs; they are integrated into interrogation; witnesses necessarily forget them.

The thread has silently crossed the gulf between conceivability and historical actuality.

That gulf is exactly where evidence is required.

15. Biblical correction#

The most important biblical correction is not “the Bible says secret technologies do not exist.”

It says no such thing.

Nor would it be sound exegesis to label an alleged machine “demonic” merely because its mechanism is unclear.

The scriptural correction concerns epistemology and conduct.

1 Thessalonians 5:21: “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” The surrounding verses warn against simply despising claimed spiritual communication while simultaneously commanding testing. Biblical discernment therefore rejects both reflexive dismissal and reflexive credulity. The Holy Bible King James Versi…

Acts 17:11: the Bereans “searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” Even apostolic preaching was examined rather than accepted merely because it sounded authoritative. The Holy Bible King James Versi…

Proverbs 18:13: hearing precedes answering. That forbids lazy debunking. Proverbs 18:17: the first account can sound convincing until examined. That forbids treating OP's confident detail as verification. The Holy Bible King James Versi…

Deuteronomy 19:15: grave accusations demand corroboration. Again, the verse's immediate setting is Israelite judicial procedure, but its evidentiary seriousness cuts directly against anonymously accusing unnamed institutions or individuals of torture without witnesses or records. The Holy Bible King James Versi…

2 Timothy 1:7: “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” Whatever conclusion someone ultimately reaches about intelligence abuses, Christianity provides no warrant for allowing fear itself to become evidence. The Holy Bible King James Versi…

That last distinction matters:

vigilance is not fear.

skepticism is not unbelief.

credulity is not faith.

And exposing genuine darkness does not require embellishing what the evidence cannot establish.

16. Final evidentiary synthesis#

The thread's foundation contains several real pieces:

MKULTRA existed.

Unwitting experimentation occurred.

Hypnosis was investigated.

Electroshock and “radiation” appeared in the program's research landscape.

CIA records were destroyed.

Anterograde amnesia is real.

The hippocampal system is crucial to new episodic memory.

RF energy can produce biological effects.

Microwave auditory phenomena are real.

Modern neuromodulation is real.

Phased-array beam steering is real.

Suggestion can generate false memories.

The United States really did operate a highly controversial post-9/11 CIA detention/interrogation program. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence

But the central bridges remain unproved:

No evidence located for a CIA device known as the “X-pad.”

No demonstrated room-scale field producing clean, reversible anterograde amnesia of the described kind.

No evidence for one “memory frequency” that can simply be jammed.

No support for the twelve-hour short-term-to-permanent-memory conversion model.

No documentation of X-pad torture of politicians, CEOs, generals or leaders.

No evidence that such devices are incorporated into American interrogation doctrine.

No evidence that hypnosis can reliably replace an erased operation with an arbitrary synthetic autobiographical episode.

No evidence that the absence of witnesses is itself evidence of the alleged device.

The most defensible conclusion is therefore not “CIA behavioral experimentation is fantasy.”

History forbids that answer.

It is:

The thread builds an unverified modern technology claim out of authentic historical abuses, genuine neuroscience vocabulary, real electromagnetic phenomena, and legitimate memory research. Those ingredients make the story sound technically grounded, but they do not establish the key mechanism or the alleged operational history. On the evidence presently available, “X-pads” remain an unsupported allegation rather than a demonstrated CIA technology.

That, to me, is exactly where “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good” lands: keep the documented scandal, keep the genuine science, keep the legitimate questions—and refuse to manufacture certainty across the missing bridges.

Open the 4chan thread examined here

I can give you a short three-question “spot the evidentiary bridge” exercise using three claims from this thread.

We already have the core fact-check. What would elevate it from a rebuttal into a serious forensic research paper is making the provenance and burden-of-proof architecture even more explicit. I’d add the following sections, roughly in this order:

  1. Executive Abstract + Findings at a Glance. One page stating exactly what was investigated, the research cutoff date, what was confirmed, what was plausible-but-unproven, what was contradicted by known evidence, and what remains unknowable. This gives readers the conclusion without forcing them through the entire investigation first.
  2. A Claim-Provenance Map. Trace every major allegation backward: 4chan OP → quoted/reposted source → Tim Rifat or other earlier source → alleged intelligence/scientific origin. This is extremely important because repeated copies can create the illusion of multiple independent witnesses when there may really be only one originating claim.
  3. Evidence Classification System. Define categories such as Primary Documentary Evidence, Peer-Reviewed Science, Secondary Historical Reporting, Anonymous Testimony, Inference, Speculation, and Unsupported Assertion. Then tag important claims throughout the paper. This will make it visually obvious that “the CIA researched behavioral control” and “X-Pads exist” occupy radically different evidentiary categories.
  4. Known CIA Programs vs. Alleged X-Pad Capabilities. A side-by-side comparison covering BLUEBIRD, ARTICHOKE, MKULTRA and documented interrogation research versus what the 4chan thread alleges. The point would not be “CIA innocent”; quite the opposite: acknowledge what is historically documented so that genuine abuses cannot be used as a rhetorical bridge to claims for which evidence is missing.
  5. The Missing Engineering Specification. Give the alleged X-Pad the treatment an actual engineer would demand: frequency, wavelength, modulation, transmitter power, antenna geometry, field strength at the target, absorption in tissue, penetration depth, targeting mechanism, room reflections, shielding, thermal effects, operator protection and measurable neurological endpoint. The absence of these parameters is itself revealing. “Microwaves affect biology” is nowhere near enough to establish the claimed machine.
  6. Memory Science Primer. Distinguish working memory, short-term memory, episodic encoding, semantic memory, procedural memory, synaptic consolidation, systems consolidation, retrieval and reconsolidation. Then revisit every thread statement using those distinctions. This would especially dismantle the simplistic “RAM → twelve-hour permanent storage” analogy without pretending that experimentally induced memory disruption is impossible.
  7. A ‘What Would We Expect to Observe?’ Test. This could become one of the paper’s strongest sections. If X-Pads operated as alleged, what secondary evidence should exist? Operator training, maintenance procedures, shielding, medical injuries, calibration records, procurement chains, test subjects, power requirements, accidental exposures, engineering personnel, containment protocols, or unexplained amnesia patterns. Then ask whether any such independent evidence has surfaced.
  8. Self-Sealing Claims and Falsifiability. Examine statements such as “nobody remembers the device because the device makes everybody forget.” Show why this creates an epistemological problem: every absence of evidence becomes evidence for the theory. Importantly, distinguish this from genuine secrecy. Real covert operations can be hidden, but historical investigation eventually depends on positive evidence rather than an endlessly expanding explanation for why evidence cannot exist.
  9. Psychological Persuasion Anatomy of the Thread. Go beyond naming biases. Break down the writing technique itself: authoritative technical vocabulary, precise-sounding details without measurements, historical anchoring in real scandals, anonymous insider framing, escalation of claims, mystery gaps, “forbidden knowledge” appeal, community reinforcement, memes and irony, repetition, and the transition from possibility to asserted certainty. Do this without diagnosing the posters.
  10. The ‘Reality Sandwich’ Technique. I would actually give this a named subsection. Many powerful misinformation narratives contain true fact → unsupported bridge → extraordinary conclusion. For example: the hippocampus is involved in memory → a frequency can selectively jam hippocampal encoding → CIA interrogation rooms erase memories. Showing that architecture repeatedly would teach the reader a reusable method of analysis.
  11. Alternative Hypotheses. Instead of merely saying “false,” ask what else could explain the thread: creative fiction, collaborative storytelling, intentional bait, sincere speculation based on older mind-control literature, misunderstanding of genuine neuromodulation research, recycled conspiracy literature, or some mixture of sincerity and irony. Crucially, we should not claim to know which motive applies to anonymous posters.
  12. A Stronger Biblical Epistemology Section. Rather than merely collecting verses, organize Scripture around principles: test claims (1 Thessalonians 5:21), hear before answering (Proverbs 18:13), examine competing testimony (Proverbs 18:17), require corroboration for serious accusations (Deuteronomy 19:15), search carefully (Acts 17:11), and do not permit fear to replace sound judgment (2 Timothy 1:7). The Holy Bible King James Versi… Then add an important hermeneutical warning: these passages provide principles of truthfulness and discernment; they do not contain secret predictions about CIA technology.

I would also add three appendices: a complete post-by-post transcript with annotations, a source bibliography with archival URLs and access dates, and a claim ledger where every factual assertion receives an ID such as XC-01, XC-02, etc. That would let the body say “see Claim XC-14” and allow a reader to independently reproduce our investigation.

One particularly valuable chapter could be titled “The Missing Bridge: When True Facts Are Used to Support an Unproven Conclusion.” That concept is really the intellectual center of the entire paper. It allows us to acknowledge MKULTRA, genuine neuroscience, genuine RF phenomena, genuine hypnosis research and genuine classified programs without granting a conclusion the evidence never established.

And at the very end, I’d include a boxed Library of Rickandria Research Standard:

We do not reject a claim because it is strange. We do not accept a claim because institutions have lied before. We identify what is alleged, trace its source, test its mechanism, seek independent corroboration, distinguish possibility from evidence, and refuse to call speculation fact.

That would give the whole paper a clear methodological identity.

I’ll turn this into a full research paper rather than an expanded rebuttal: first I’ll lock down the thread’s claims and provenance, then build the historical/scientific/psychological sections around primary or peer-reviewed sources, and finally add the Scripture section using the uploaded KJV. I’ll keep clear labels for what is documented, what is inference, what is disputed, and what remains unsupported.

The source structure is coming together cleanly. One important correction I’m preserving in the paper: the historical record really does document CIA behavioral-control research, including MKULTRA and destroyed records, so the paper will not use “conspiracy theory” as a synonym for “false.” The question is whether the specific X-Pad mechanism and operational claims have independent evidence.
