A Fact-Checked Examination of the 4chan “Fake Cities” Thread Through Evidence, Psychology, Methodology & Scripture

4Chan Narrative Breakdown by VCG — September 2026

Abstract

/x/ - FAKE CITIES (PROCEED WITH CAUTION) - Paranormal - 4chan

On September 10, 2026, an anonymous poster on 4chan’s /x/ paranormal board opened a thread titled

“FAKE CITIES (PROCEED WITH CAUTION).”

The opening story recalled older YouTube channels whose creators allegedly monitored large metropolitan buildings and concluded that many supposedly occupied structures—and eventually substantial portions of cities—contained far fewer people than expected.

From there the discussion expanded into claims involving:

  • vacant real estate
  • fabricated employment
  • shell companies
  • money laundering
  • secret telecommunications infrastructure
  • Room 641A
  • smart-city projects
  • Wi-Fi and 5G sensing
  • synthetic people
  • underground installations
  • Project MONARCH
  • spiritual warfare
  • apocalyptic expectations
  • ethnicity
  • religion

and historical

“ghost cities.”

The thread simultaneously contained skeptical counterclaims alleging that the original videos were manipulated or monetized hoaxes.

This paper does not begin by assuming either that the thread is true or that it is absurd.

Instead, it separates:

  • observation
  • historical fact
  • hypothesis
  • proposed mechanism
  • psychological interpretation
  • theological interpretation

Its central finding is that the thread contains numerous truth kernels:

urban vacancy is real; high-value second homes exist; real estate is vulnerable to money laundering; institutional investors do own significant shares of rental housing in some markets; governments have maintained secret surveillance programs; Room 641A was associated with evidence of large-scale telecommunications interception; MKULTRA and COINTELPRO were real; wireless signals can be used to detect human presence; Chinese “ghost city” development is documented; and governments have concealed serious wrongdoing before.

None of those facts, however, presently establishes the thread’s larger synthesis:

that major American cities are systematically staged, that traffic is manufactured to simulate population, that large numbers of workers are non-human substitutes, that telecommunications buildings are

“biological siphons,”

that Sidewalk Labs secretly completed an underground autonomous grid beneath Toronto, or that ordinary wireless infrastructure maps consciousness or manipulates dreams.

The distinction matters.

A real conspiracy somewhere is evidence that conspiracies are possible.

It is not evidence that a different conspiracy has occurred.

The biblical portion of this study reaches a parallel conclusion.

Scripture plainly teaches that deception, secret wickedness, false testimony, corrupt rulers, spiritual evil and false signs are real.

Scripture also requires:

  • careful testimony
  • multiple witnesses
  • examination
  • truthfulness

and restraint from false accusation.

The resulting biblical posture is neither credulity nor complacency:

“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”—1 Thessalonians 5:21, KJV

I. Why This Thread Is Worth Taking Seriously

The easiest way to mishandle a thread like this is to choose a side before reading it.

One reader sees

“puppet people,”

synthetic soldiers and dream manipulation and dismisses everything in the discussion.

Another recognizes Room 641A, real-estate laundering and ghost cities as genuine phenomena and concludes that the rest of the narrative has therefore earned credibility.

Both shortcuts fail.

The thread is interesting precisely because it mixes different grades of information.

Some claims can be checked against government records.

Others are anonymous memories.

Some are technically plausible but unproven.

Some are genuine historical facts stretched far beyond what their sources support.

Still others are interpretations of dreams, metaphors or spiritual ideas.

And several skeptical rebuttals in the thread are themselves anonymous allegations without preserved evidence.

A careful investigation therefore cannot ask only:

“Is the fake-cities theory true?”

That question is too large.

We need smaller questions:

Did the alleged videos exist?

Can the channels be identified?

Were the buildings identified?

Were they actually represented as occupied?

Were all entrances observed?

How much traffic should have been expected?

Are there independent copies of the recordings?

Are there public occupancy, lease, utility or property records?

Did YouTube remove the channels, or did their owners delete them?

Are the claims about real-estate laundering accurate?

What exactly did Mark Klein establish at AT&T?

What technologies can Wi-Fi actually perform?

What did Sidewalk Labs actually build?

What documentary evidence exists for MKULTRA and alleged Project MONARCH?

And when the thread begins invoking Scripture, spiritual warfare and apocalyptic expectation, what does the biblical text actually say?

That method follows a surprisingly fitting principle from Proverbs:

“He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.”

“He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.”—Proverbs 18:13, 17, KJV

The first warning is against premature dismissal.

The second is against premature belief.

II. Scope and Method

This paper reviewed the live 4chan thread as retrieved on September 10, 2026, then checked its substantive claims against:

  • primary records
  • official statistical sources
  • court filings
  • government archives
  • peer-reviewed research

and, where primary material was unavailable, clearly identified secondary sources.

Each claim is classified according to the following scale:

Grade

Meaning

A — Verified

Strong primary, official or independently corroborated evidence establishes the essential claim.

B — Supported

The basic phenomenon is well supported, although the thread overstates or simplifies some details.

C — Plausible / Open

The claim is possible and could be investigated, but the available evidence does not establish it.

D — Unsupported

The thread provides assertion, analogy or anecdote without sufficient corroborating evidence.

E — Contradicted / Materially Misleading

Reliable evidence substantially conflicts with the way the claim is presented.

U — Unverifiable

The claim lacks enough identifying information for a meaningful test.

There is an important difference between D and E.

“Unsupported”

does not mean

“proved impossible.”

If an anonymous poster says that a particular skyscraper secretly houses an undisclosed facility, and gives us no address, records or witnesses, the responsible conclusion is not necessarily “false.”

It is

“not demonstrated.”

That restraint becomes especially important when dealing with intelligence history, because some genuine secret programs were once unsupported allegations until records emerged.

At the same time, secrecy cannot become a universal exemption from evidence.

If every missing document is interpreted as evidence of successful suppression, every contradiction as disinformation, every skeptic as an agent and every absence of proof as proof of extraordinary operational security, the theory becomes capable of surviving any possible observation.

At that point it becomes difficult to test at all.

III. Reconstructing the Thread Before Judging It

The original post begins with remembered YouTube investigations of apparently underused urban buildings.

It then escalates through reports of:

  • sparse traffic
  • disappearing channels
  • alleged harassment
  • a disturbing dream
  • “puppet people”

and warnings about wireless technology.

Replies introduce both conventional and extraordinary explanations:

  • parking garages
  • speculative property ownership
  • laundering
  • fake jobs
  • Gurdjieff’s “machine” metaphor
  • historical public-employment programs
  • secret telecommunications installations
  • smart cities
  • synthetic entities
  • underground bases
  • mind control
  • Chinese ghost cities

and apocalyptic conflict.

Apocalypse, Conspiracy & Scripture: A Fact-Checked Analysis of a 4chan Eschatology Debate – Library of Rickandria

Other posters insist that the original filmmaker was simply editing people out of his footage or operating a monetized hoax.

That progression matters because the thread is not one argument.

It is better understood as a branching narrative.

The initial proposition is modest enough to test:

Some supposedly occupied metropolitan buildings may be much less occupied than they appear on paper.

The later proposition is dramatically larger:

Substantial portions of civilization may be staged infrastructure populated or maintained partly by artificial beings and connected to covert technological or spiritual systems.

Those are not remotely equivalent claims.

Evidence for the first does not automatically transfer to the second.

IV. Findings at a Glance

The investigation produces four broad findings.

First, the thread is correct that strange urban emptiness is real.

The U.S. office vacancy rate was 18.3% in the second quarter of 2026. Residential vacancy is also a normal measured category, with Q2 2026 rental vacancy at 7.3% and homeowner vacancy at 1.2%.

New York City is openly debating taxation of thousands of very high-value non-primary residences.

Chinese developments have famously produced districts containing enormous quantities of completed but initially unoccupied real estate.

Second, the thread is correct that apparently ordinary property and infrastructure can conceal activity the public does not initially know about.

FinCEN treats opaque, non-financed entity or trust purchases of residential property as a laundering vulnerability.

Mark Klein’s evidence concerning AT&T facilities became part of major litigation over surveillance.

MKULTRA and COINTELPRO are not internet folklore; documentary records exist.

Third, the thread repeatedly moves from those genuine facts to propositions for which no comparable evidentiary trail is provided.

There is presently no demonstrated chain from ordinary city vacancy to staged populations, from fiber-optic surveillance to biological or consciousness extraction, from Wi-Fi presence detection to dream manipulation, or from Sidewalk Labs’ abandoned Quayside proposal to a surviving hidden autonomous underground city.

Fourth, several skeptical explanations remain unproven too.

The assertion that an original creator digitally erased pedestrians and deleted his channel after being caught would be excellent rebuttal evidence if archived originals, reflection comparisons or contemporary debunking records could be recovered.

The thread does not supply them.

We should therefore not convert an anonymous skeptical recollection into fact merely because it supports our conclusion.

That symmetry is essential.

V. The Claim Ledger

The table below reduces the thread to testable propositions rather than treating its rhetoric as one block.

#

Claim

Grade

Assessment

1

Large “occupied” buildings showed almost no foot traffic

U

Buildings, dates and original recordings remain unidentified.

2

Whole city sections were similarly underpopulated

U/D

Possible local emptiness is documented generally; the specific investigation is not.

Cars repeatedly circulated to simulate traffic

U

Anonymous recollection; no raw tracking evidence or driver testimony.

4

The channels were deliberately purged

U

YouTube changed recommendation policy, but no channel identities or removal records are supplied.

5

The creators self-deleted after fakery was exposed

U

Skeptical counterclaim is likewise unsupported without archives.

6

Modern cities contain substantial empty office space

A

U.S. office vacancy was 18.3% in Q2 2026.

7

High-value second residences can remain lightly used

Explicit FinCEN concern, especially non-financed entity/trust transfers.

9

Whole skyscrapers are routinely constructed solely to launder money

D

Real-estate laundering does not establish this specific mechanism or prevalence.

Institutional investors own meaningful housing portfolios

A

Verified, but scale varies greatly by market.

11

Hedge funds own essentially the vacant housing stock

E/D

Available data do not support the sweeping formulation.

Great Depression soil work was secret artificial employment

E

Conservation work was an openly created public program; U.S. soil surveying began in 1899.

13

Gurdjieff taught that people are “machines”

A

Genuine Fourth Way language, but psychological/esoteric, not evidence of manufactured humans.

14

Room 641A / AT&T surveillance infrastructure was real

A/B

Secure-room/splitter evidence is strongly documented; legal disputes remained over scope and function.

15

611 Folsom had no ordinary commercial function

E

Litigation records describe AT&T WorldNet and major Internet peering activity.

16

Telecom facilities were “biological siphons”

D

No demonstrated biological mechanism, measurements or independent records.

17

Sidewalk Labs abandoned Quayside

A

Withdrawal occurred in May 2020.

No supporting evidence located; major servicing work was publicly beginning in 2025.

19

Wi-Fi can detect human presence

A

Demonstrated using channel-state information.

20

Wi-Fi/5G distinguishes “real humans” from synthetic ones or reads consciousness

Existing wireless-sensing research does not establish this.

21

MKULTRA involved behavioral research and unwitting human subjects

A

Confirmed by CIA records and congressional investigation.

22

Project MONARCH is documented like MKULTRA

D

No publicly available official MONARCH record comparable to MKULTRA; scholarship describes evidence as inconclusive.

23

Svali’s testimony independently proves underground programming networks

D/U

The source is explicitly pseudonymous testimony, not independent documentary verification.

24

China has experienced real “ghost city” development

A

Well documented.

25

Centralia became nearly abandoned because of an underground mine fire

A

Official Pennsylvania chronology confirms it.

26

The Centralia fire is officially predicted to burn 1,000 more years

U/D

The official material reviewed confirms the continuing fire, not that specific figure.

27

UK cash-intensive businesses have been used for laundering

A

Operation Machinize targeted hundreds and produced arrests, seizures and freezing orders.

28

Ethnicity itself identifies a business as a laundering front

E

Ethnicity is not financial or criminal evidence.

29

Fewer than half of U.S. adults read at a sixth-grade level

E/misleading

PIAAC reports proficiency levels, not a simple sixth-grade equivalence; 28% were Level 1 or below in 2023.

30

World population is about 8.8 billion in 2026

E

UN medium projections place 2024 at 8.2 billion and 2030 at 8.5 billion.

31

Four or five companies centrally control human culture

D/U

No defined market, companies, metric or mechanism is supplied.

32

Large numbers of office workers are literal bots/synthetic people

D

No biological or documentary evidence is presented.

33

Nuclear conflict/death is the only solution

Unsupported and morally rejected

Neither evidence nor Scripture warrants this conclusion.

34

Antisemitic or religious stereotypes explain the property phenomenon

E

No evidentiary relevance; Scripture itself contradicts ethnic ownership caricatures.

This ledger makes the central pattern visible.

The thread contains a significant number of A-grade premises, but most of its extraordinary conclusions are not the same propositions as those premises.

That brings us to the most important analytical model in this paper.

VI. Truth Kernels and Unsupported Bridges

Conspiracy narratives often do not consist entirely of invented information.

The more interesting ones frequently work the other way around:

they gather genuine anomalies and genuine historical wrongs and then connect them with bridges whose evidentiary quality is much weaker than the facts on either side.

Consider Room 641A.

A simplified progression looks like this:

Secret surveillance infrastructure existed inside an ordinary telecommunications facility.

That is supported.

Then:

Some ordinary-looking infrastructure therefore performs undisclosed functions.

Reasonable.

Then:

Other unusually empty or energy-intensive buildings could perform undisclosed functions.

Possible.

Then:

The unexplained buildings probably belong to the same covert network.

Not established.

Then:

The network is biologically sensing or extracting human information.

No supporting mechanism demonstrated.

Then:

It maps consciousness or serves post-human occupants.

An extraordinary claim several inferential steps removed from the original evidence.

The first two steps are not refuted merely because the fifth is unsupported.

Likewise, the fifth does not become supported because the first is true.

This is what we will call the Truth-Kernel → Unsupported-Bridge problem.

It appears repeatedly throughout the thread:

Real estate laundering exists → therefore vacant buildings may conceal laundering → therefore an entire skyscraper may have been built solely to launder money → therefore entire urban districts may exist principally as financial fronts.

Or:

Wi-Fi signals are disturbed by human bodies → algorithms can detect those disturbances → wireless systems can infer some human characteristics → therefore wireless infrastructure can identify special categories of human beings → therefore it can hunt “real humans” and manipulate dreams.

Or:

MKULTRA existed → covert behavioral research continued to be possible → therefore Project MONARCH existed in the specific form described online → therefore synthetic/programmed soldiers are stationed beneath vacant urban areas.

The problem is not imagination.

Hypothesis formation requires imagination.

The problem comes when a hypothesis quietly inherits the evidentiary status of the fact that inspired it.

VII. A Source Is Not Just Something With a Link Under It

One of the paper's most important methodological distinctions is chain of custody.

Internet material comes in very different forms.

A contemporary government record is not equivalent to a screenshot of somebody describing that record.

An original video is not equivalent to somebody remembering the video ten years later.

A named witness with employment documents is not equivalent to an anonymous poster recalling another anonymous commenter.

A dead YouTube URL proves that a URL existed. It does not tell us what the video showed unless its content is independently preserved.

For this investigation, the practical source hierarchy is:

Level

Evidence type

Typical evidentiary value

1

Original records, raw data, physical evidence, court exhibits, authenticated recordings

Highest

2

Named firsthand witnesses with independently confirmable access

High

3

Official statistical reports, peer-reviewed studies, contemporaneous institutional records

High

4

Reputable secondary reporting citing identifiable primary material

Moderate–high

5

Archived copies with uncertain provenance

Moderate, dependent on authentication

6

Named recollection years later

Limited unless corroborated

7

Anonymous firsthand claim

Lead, not proof

8

Anonymous retelling of another person's claim

Weak

9

Meme, symbolic analogy, fiction or unattributed screenshot

Illustrative, not evidentiary

This does not mean institutions at Levels 1–3 never lie.

Room 641A, Watergate, MKULTRA and COINTELPRO are reminders that they can.

It means that evidence must possess properties that allow other people to inspect it.

A government record can be forged; a witness can lie; a video can be edited.

But each gives an investigator something concrete to authenticate, compare and challenge.

Anonymous memory gives much less leverage.

VIII. The Strongest Version of the Fake-Cities Hypothesis

Before criticizing the theory, it is worth removing its weakest adornments and asking what remains.

A defensible steelman might read like this:

Some urban buildings represented through leases, addresses, property records or corporate listings as substantially active may in fact have extremely low physical occupancy.

A subset could function primarily as:

  • stores of wealth
  • speculative assets
  • corporate-registration addresses
  • technical infrastructure
  • government or private secure facilities

or vehicles for illicit finance.

Public impressions of urban activity may therefore overstate the amount or kind of human activity occurring inside some structures.

That proposition is not absurd.

Parts of it are already true.

We know some properties are non-primary residences.

We know offices can remain vacant.

We know real property can function as a financial asset.

We know shell entities can obscure beneficial ownership.

We know classified or restricted technical operations can be embedded inside ordinary facilities.

The question is whether those phenomena explain the buildings remembered by the OP.

At present, we cannot know, because we do not have the buildings.

And this exposes a major weakness of the original narrative:

the strongest part of the claim is also the easiest part to test, yet the thread does not provide the basic identifiers necessary to test it.

IX. What Would an Actual Building Investigation Require?

Imagine researchers observe a skyscraper's front doors for eight hours and see only six people enter.

That is data.

But by itself it is incomplete data.

Before inferring occupancy, we need to know how many entrances exist.

A responder in the thread immediately asks about parking garages—an excellent methodological objection.

We would also want to know whether the building connects internally to other buildings, whether employees enter through underground parking or transit, whether security shifts begin before the observation window, whether offices are hybrid, whether the property is under renovation, whether leases are active but underutilized, and what “fully occupied” means in whatever source originally described it.

A rigorous field study could look like this:

Investigation stage

Required information

Property identification

Exact address, parcel, owner, building type

Claimed occupancy

Tenant roster, lease status, published employee counts, permitted use

Access mapping

Public doors, garages, loading bays, tunnels, internal connections

Observation

Multiple randomly selected weekdays and time periods

Controls

Similar buildings in same district with known active occupancy

Raw evidence

Continuous timestamped recordings, not edited highlight reels

Independent replication

Separate observers who do not share counts beforehand

Auxiliary data

Deliveries, public permits, utility patterns where legally obtainable

Corporate research

Beneficial ownership, registered entities, lawsuits, financing

Publication

Raw methodology, uncertainty and failed observations included

This would not require trespassing.

It would not require following private people home.

It would not require confronting receptionists or photographing employees for internet identification.

It would convert a spooky story into a reproducible research project.

Suppose the results were dramatic.

Ten buildings advertised as hosting thousands of workers repeatedly showed activity compatible with only dozens; all entrances were accounted for; tenant companies could not be located; records led to common shell entities; utility patterns did not resemble expected office use; and independent teams reproduced the result.

That would be extremely interesting.

But even then we would have demonstrated misrepresented occupancy.

We still would not have demonstrated artificial humans or consciousness extraction.

Each additional claim requires additional evidence.

X. Urban Emptiness Is Real—But “Empty” Has More Than One Cause

One reason the original story feels plausible is that modern cities really can contain shocking amounts of underused space.

In Q2 2026, CBRE put the overall U.S. office vacancy rate at 18.3%, although prime space was considerably tighter and individual markets differed dramatically.

Residential vacancy is also a normal economic category.

The Census Bureau reported Q2 2026 rental vacancy of 7.3% and homeowner vacancy of 1.2%.

Census explicitly describes some vacancy as necessary for a functioning housing market because people need available units into which they can move.

That alone should caution against a common conceptual error:

vacant property is not the same thing as fictitious property.

A vacant unit may be:

  • between tenants
  • for sale
  • seasonal
  • undergoing repairs
  • held as a second residence
  • newly completed
  • distressed
  • awaiting redevelopment
  • legally tied up

or simply failing in the market.

At the luxury end, New York City provides a striking example.

In April 2026, the city comptroller analyzed a proposed pied-à-terre tax targeting high-value non-primary residences.

The governor's estimate referenced roughly 13,000 second homes above the proposed valuation threshold, while the comptroller's model identified about 11,200 properties after adjustments, with substantial uncertainty about which units are rented, owner-occupied or actually subject to the rule.

This confirms the underlying intuition that urban towers can contain properties used very differently from ordinary primary residences.

It does not establish that they are props.

XI. Chinese Ghost Cities: Extraordinary Appearance, Ordinary Mechanisms

The thread correctly invokes Chinese ghost-city development as something real.

A 2010 World Bank account of Chenggong described more than 100,000 new apartments without occupants, large office buildings without workers and unusually empty roads.

The writer did not need synthetic citizens to explain the scene; the case was examined in terms of development incentives, infrastructure planning, fiscal structures and construction preceding actual demand.

This case is important because it demonstrates something psychologically counterintuitive:

Human institutions are entirely capable of constructing environments on a scale that looks irrational to an outside observer.

A city can be real and empty.

A building can be expensive and underused.

A government can build ahead of population.

A developer can misjudge demand.

Financial and political incentives can produce landscapes that look like movie sets.

That should make us more willing to investigate urban anomalies—but less willing to treat emptiness itself as proof of staged civilization.

XII. Centralia: A Genuine American “Ghost Town”

The thread later alludes to an American settlement abandoned because of an underground coal fire. That appears to refer to Centralia, Pennsylvania.

Here the essential account is true.

Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection dates the mine fire to May 1962.

After failed control efforts and growing hazards from noxious gases and subsidence, Congress appropriated $42 million for voluntary relocation in 1984.

Between 1985 and 1991, 545 residences and businesses were acquired and residents moved.

The official chronology lists a population of approximately 1,100 in 1962 and five remaining property owners by 2013.

The thread's claim that the fire is formally predicted to burn another thousand years was not established in the official material reviewed.

Centralia gives us another useful lesson.

An almost deserted powered environment can look deeply uncanny.

Its appearance does not reveal its cause.

Cause has to be investigated separately.

XIII. Real Estate, Shell Companies and Money Laundering

The financial branch of the thread deserves considerably more respect than its paranormal branches.

FinCEN explicitly warns that illicit actors often favor non-financed residential real-estate transfers, particularly purchases through entities or trusts, because such transactions historically could avoid some of the anti-money-laundering scrutiny associated with regulated mortgage financing.

FinCEN's current reporting framework requires information including beneficial ownership for covered transfers.

So the proposition:

“Real estate can be used to conceal or integrate illicit wealth.”

is not controversial.

Where the thread overreaches is in presenting an imagined laundering mechanism as though it proves that entire empty skyscrapers are intentionally created for that purpose.

Money laundering is not magic performed by constructing concrete.

Investigators would look for the source of:

  • funds
  • beneficial owners
  • transfers among related entities
  • suspicious valuations
  • cash movements
  • nominee arrangements
  • financing patterns

and links to criminal proceeds.

A vacant building may be associated with laundering.

It may also be associated with completely lawful wealth storage or speculation.

The building's emptiness does not choose between those possibilities.

XIV. Do “Hedge Funds” Own the Empty Homes?

The thread later claims that vast vacant residential and commercial inventories are essentially held by hedge funds in order to protect asset values.

There is a real debate underneath that statement, but the terminology and scale need correction.

GAO reported in March 2026 on institutional investors in six metropolitan areas.

By 2024, the selected large institutional investors owned from less than 1% to 3% of all single-family homes in those markets.

Their share of the single-family rental stock was much higher in some places—ranging from 4% in Seattle to 22% in Jacksonville.

GAO emphasizes that its six-metro sample is not nationally generalizable.

A later GAO contextual article placed the national institutional-investor share at roughly 3% of single-family homes.

This is significant enough to warrant policy scrutiny.

It is nowhere near evidence that institutional funds own essentially all vacant housing.

“Hedge fund,”

“institutional investor,”

“corporate landlord,”

“private-equity firm,”

“shell company”

“absentee owner”

are also not interchangeable categories.

Precision matters most where political conclusions are strongest.

XV. Vacant Homes and Homelessness

The moral contrast between empty property and people without stable housing is legitimate.

But the quantities should not be simplified into a misleading equation.

HUD's 2024 Point-in-Time count recorded 771,480 people experiencing homelessness on a single night.

HUD also uses annual data systems to measure people who encounter homelessness over longer periods, so the single-night count should not be mistaken for everyone who experiences homelessness in a year.

At the same time, housing “vacancy” includes multiple conditions and does not mean every unit is a habitable apartment sitting ready for an unsheltered person to enter.

There are policy arguments for taxing, acquiring or incentivizing the use of long-term vacant property.

Those arguments should be made on their own evidence.

They do not require a fake-city theory.

XVI. The British Barber-Shop Claim

Late in the thread, financial suspicion becomes entangled with ethnicity.

A poster claims that numerous Turkish-owned barber and vape businesses in Britain are obvious laundering fronts and that authorities knowingly refuse to act.

There is a genuine criminal-enforcement story here.

In April 2025, Britain's National Crime Agency announced results from Operation Machinize, a coordinated action against cash-intensive businesses.

Authorities visited 380 premises, executed 84 warrants, made 35 arrests, secured more than £1 million in account-freezing orders and seized cash and illicit goods.

The NCA specifically noted that criminal groups can use businesses such as:

  • barbershops
  • vape shops
  • nail salons
  • sweet shops
  • car washes

to mix criminal cash with legitimate revenue.

The real evidence therefore supports:

Some cash-intensive businesses are exploited for money laundering and associated crime.

It contradicts:

Authorities are doing nothing.

And it does not support:

The ethnicity of a proprietor is evidence that the business is criminal.

That last move is not investigation.

It is substitution:

using demographic identity where financial evidence should be.

The same principle applies to the thread's later generalizations about Muslims in Germany and its antisemitic remark about property ownership.

Those tangents introduce ethnic or religious enemies without supplying evidence that those categories explain the phenomenon under investigation.

XVII. Room 641A: The Thread's Best Example of a Real Hidden System

Room 641A deserves special attention because it demonstrates why simple appeals to normal appearances can fail.

Former AT&T technician Mark Klein described a secure room associated with the company's San Francisco telecommunications infrastructure and produced internal material concerning fiber splitters.

Litigation records describe AT&T's Folsom Street facility as an Internet peering site connecting major networks, and plaintiffs presented expert analysis arguing that splitters copied communications crossing certain links.

This was serious evidence.

There was a named technician.

He had relevant employment.

There were technical documents.

There was physical infrastructure.

Experts analyzed it.

The allegations entered federal litigation.

We should also retain the limitations.

In a later ruling, a court concluded that Klein could not establish from his own personal knowledge the content, function or purpose of the secure room sufficiently to support the plaintiffs' broader dragnet claim.

That nuance strengthens rather than weakens the lesson.

The right conclusion is not:

“Room 641A proves everything suspected about surveillance.”

Nor is it:

“Because the litigation encountered evidentiary limits, nothing unusual existed.”

The useful conclusion is:

hidden infrastructure can be real, and establishing exactly what it does requires technical evidence beyond merely discovering that it is hidden.

XVIII. Why the Thread's 611 Folsom Argument Overreaches

The thread uses 611 Folsom as though an apparently non-commercial, nearly automated building itself demonstrates something beyond telecommunications.

But the litigation record describes ordinary telecommunications functions at the relevant AT&T facilities, including WorldNet Internet services and major Internet peering connections.

That matters because a telecommunications switching facility can naturally exhibit several characteristics that look suspicious if viewed through the wrong model:

few people,

high electrical demand,

significant heat,

heavy data flows,

security restrictions,

little ordinary foot traffic.

Those characteristics are exactly what one might expect from a data-intensive technical facility.

Therefore the relevant question is not:

“Why does such a huge building have so few employees?”

It is:

“How many employees would a facility of this technical type normally require?”

The expected baseline changes the anomaly.

XIX. From Fiber Splitters to “Biological Siphons”

The next step in the thread is much weaker.

The post moves from documented telecommunications interception toward an alleged class of autonomous facilities performing biological, behavioral or consciousness-related extraction.

Here the evidentiary chain breaks.

No biological samples are offered.

No device schematics demonstrate such functionality.

No measurable “bio-frequency” variable is defined.

No independent laboratory reproduces the mechanism.

No authenticated procurement record describes it.

No identified engineer testifies to building it.

No court filing, budget or technical paper bridges ordinary telecommunications sensing to extraction of consciousness.

This does not establish metaphysical impossibility.

It establishes a far narrower conclusion:

The thread has not demonstrated the mechanism it proposes.

That phrasing matters.

XX. Sidewalk Labs and Toronto's Quayside

The Sidewalk Labs episode is another good example of a real controversy acquiring fictional-looking extensions.

Sidewalk Labs genuinely pursued a technology-intensive redevelopment proposal for Toronto's waterfront.

Waterfront Toronto announced on May 7, 2020 that Sidewalk Labs was withdrawing from the planned Quayside redevelopment, with global financial uncertainty cited in the announcement.

The thread then alleges that sophisticated underground sensing infrastructure had already been embedded and remained active after the project was abandoned.

The public construction chronology does not support that account.

Waterfront Toronto's May 2025 construction notice describes phase-one servicing infrastructure

  • stormwater and sanitary pipes
  • utility ducts
  • streets and public realm

—as current construction work supporting future development.

That is difficult to reconcile with the narrative of a secretly completed subterranean digital metropolis operating since the mid-2010s.

Could some preliminary technology or test installation have existed? Certainly possible.

Did the evidence reviewed establish the thread's alleged

“Synthetic Spatial Sub-Grid”?

No.

This is a good place to preserve the distinction:

The Sidewalk privacy controversy was real.

The hidden autonomous sub-grid claim is not thereby real.

XXI. Wi-Fi Really Can Sense People

The wireless branch of the thread cannot be responsibly answered with

“radio waves cannot detect people.”

They can.

A 2024 Scientific Reports study demonstrated non-contact human-presence detection using changes in Wi-Fi Channel State Information.

Its controlled experiments distinguished conditions such as an empty room, a person present and recent presence with high reported accuracy.

A 2024 survey of Wi-Fi-based human identification research describes work on:

  • indoor localization
  • activity recognition
  • gait
  • gestures
  • respiration

and other characteristics inferred through wireless signal changes and machine-learning analysis.

It also emphasizes practical limitations and research challenges.

This is genuine technology.

It deserves privacy scrutiny.

But now observe the bridge.

Human bodies affect radio propagation.

Supported.

Those effects can reveal presence and some behavior.

Supported.

Some systems can classify individuals under appropriate conditions.

Supported in research settings.

Therefore urban 5G infrastructure can identify which pedestrians are “real humans.”

No evidence.

Therefore it maps consciousness.

No evidence.

Therefore it can implant or manipulate dreams in the manner alleged.

No evidence presented.

The extraordinary conclusion is not a more advanced version of the established technology. It is a different claim.

XXII. Gurdjieff's “Machine People”

One poster invokes George Gurdjieff's description of ordinary man as a machine.

That language is real.

Fourth Way sources describe a person in an undeveloped state as behaving mechanically—reacting to external impressions, habits and conditioning rather than exercising the awakened consciousness Gurdjieff's system sought to cultivate.

Whether one agrees with Gurdjieff's philosophy is separate from the interpretive mistake in the thread.

“Machine” in that framework is a theory of human psychological automaticity.

It is not evidence that the person at the office next door was grown in a laboratory.

Metaphor can become dangerous evidence when its original category is forgotten.

XXIII. MKULTRA: A Real Case, and Therefore a Useful Benchmark

MKULTRA is often invoked in internet discussions as shorthand for

“the government really did mind control.”

The history is both more specific and more disturbing.

In 1977, CIA Director Stansfield Turner testified that MKULTRA served as an umbrella for a range of sensitive activities.

Some research concerned behavioral modification through drugs and hypnosis and included human volunteers and, in some cases, unwitting subjects.

Recovered records also documented unwitting drug testing in safe houses.

Separate CIA correspondence confirms that recovered MKULTRA files contained evidence of human testing involving behavior-control techniques, including testing on unwitting subjects.

This history should destroy the simplistic argument:

“No government would ever secretly experiment on people.”

A government did.

But it also destroys a different shortcut:

“Because MKULTRA existed, any later mind-control allegation should be presumed a continuation.”

Why do we know MKULTRA existed?

Because there are documents.

There are project names.

There are financial records.

There are congressional hearings.

There are agency admissions.

There are identified institutional relationships.

The documentary record is incomplete partly because records were destroyed, but enough survived to establish the program.

That is what proof of a formerly secret program looks like.

XXIV. Project MONARCH and Svali

The thread later connects vacant cities with “MONARCH slaves,” underground facilities and the testimony of a pseudonymous writer known as Svali.

These claims require careful handling because dismissive rhetoric is no substitute for source analysis.

The Svali material genuinely exists.

The source itself identifies “Svali” as a pseudonym and presents her as claiming former insider status.

That tells us what the source is:

pseudonymous testimony.

It does not independently authenticate the biography or the extraordinary systems described.

An academic treatment of trauma-based mind-control narratives notes a crucial documentary difference:

no publicly available official document comparable to the MKULTRA archive identifies a government Project MONARCH of the form described in this literature.

The author considers competing interpretations and ultimately characterizes the evidence as inconclusive.

The correct verdict is therefore not:

“MONARCH was proved false.”

Nor:

“MKULTRA proves MONARCH.”

It is:

“MONARCH, as described in this body of conspiracy literature, currently lacks the documentary authentication that exists for MKULTRA.”

That is a substantial difference.

XXV. “Fake Jobs” and the Great Depression

The thread's employment discussion contains another genuine historical kernel.

The New Deal did mobilize large numbers of workers through public programs.

Conservation became a major federal priority, and labor from the Civilian Conservation Corps, Civil Works Administration and Works Progress Administration supported Soil Conservation Service projects.

The permanent Soil Conservation Service was established in 1935.

But U.S. soil surveying did not begin as secret Great Depression busywork.

Congress authorized USDA soil investigations in 1899, decades earlier, and early surveys were published that same year.

Nor were New Deal conservation programs an “unspoken” unemployment policy.

They were public legislation and public administration.

One can debate whether particular public jobs are economically productive.

That is different from claiming that modern employment generally consists of covertly fabricated positions designed to hide unemployment.

The thread provides no macroeconomic evidence for that larger proposition.

XXVI. The Literacy Statistic

The literacy tangent illustrates what happens when a real statistic is converted into a culturally convenient slogan.

NCES reported that in the 2023 PIAAC assessment, 28% of U.S. adults ages 16–65 performed at Level 1 or below in literacy, up from 19% in 2017. Forty-four percent scored at Level 3 or above.

PIAAC uses its own proficiency scale.

It is not simply a school-grade reading-level chart.

Therefore

“less than half of American adults can read at a sixth-grade level”

is not a clean statement of the NCES result.

More importantly, literacy rates have almost no evidentiary bearing on whether a skyscraper is occupied.

The statistic enters the conversation because it supports a broader mood of social unreality and incompetence.

That may make the narrative feel more coherent.

It does not strengthen the building evidence.

XXVII. The Population Number and the “Four Companies” Claim

One poster describes culture being distributed to roughly 8.8 billion humans.

UN World Population Prospects 2024 placed the world at approximately 8.2 billion in 2024 and projected 8.5 billion in 2030 under its medium scenario.

An 8.8-billion figure for September 2026 is therefore too high relative to the standard UN projection.

The same post says a tiny number of major companies essentially manufacture world culture.

Corporate concentration is a legitimate research topic.

But the claim as stated is not yet researchable because it does not define:

which companies,

which markets,

what counts as “culture,”

what percentage of cultural production they control,

how subsidiaries are counted,

or what mechanism amounts to control of

“language and symbolism.”

Without definitions, a large claim can remain permanently impressive and permanently untestable.

XXVIII. What Documented Conspiracies Look Like When They Become Provable

This comparison may be the single most important chapter in the paper.

People interested in conspiracy claims are often told,

“Somebody would have exposed it.”

History proves that is not a reliable rule.

But history also shows what happens when exposure succeeds.

Room 641A

The case involved a named:

  • telecommunications technician
  • internal technical material
  • physical equipment
  • expert declarations
  • federal litigation

MKULTRA

The record includes surviving:

  • project documentation
  • financial material
  • agency correspondence
  • congressional hearings

and explicit CIA acknowledgment of testing involving unwitting subjects.

COINTELPRO

The FBI itself now acknowledges that COINTELPRO began in 1956, expanded to multiple domestic groups, used tactics including infiltration and sowing discord, and in some cases targeted people despite little or no evidence of unlawful activity.

The program became publicly exposed after activists burglarized the FBI office in Media, Pennsylvania in 1971 and released documents.

Watergate

Watergate did not become established because observers merely sensed that the Nixon administration was suspicious.

Evidence accumulated through arrests, testimony, investigation and, critically, recorded White House conversations.

The National Archives describes the June 23, 1972 “smoking gun” tape as showing Nixon's involvement in obstructing the investigation.

The USPHS Untreated Syphilis Study at Tuskegee

The CDC documents that the study ran from 1932 to 1972, involved 600 Black men, did not obtain informed consent and failed to offer participants penicillin after it became the treatment of choice.

Public exposure led to review and termination.

These cases are different in subject and moral severity.

What they share is evidentiary anatomy:

This does not establish that a true conspiracy must leave every kind of evidence.

It establishes a benchmark.

The more elaborate a theory becomes—

the more:

  • buildings
  • workers
  • utilities
  • construction crews
  • governments
  • corporations

and technological systems it requires—the more independent traces we should expect it to generate.

XXIX. The Psychology of the Thread—Without Diagnosing Its Posters

Psychology is useful here, but it is often abused.

Calling somebody “crazy” does not tell us whether a building is empty.

Likewise, identifying a cognitive bias does not prove the conclusion affected by that bias is false.

A person can reach a true conclusion through bad reasoning.

A person can reach a false conclusion through careful reasoning applied to bad data.

So psychology should explain how narratives become compelling, not substitute for evidence.

A 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis examined 971 effect sizes from 279 independent studies involving more than 137,000 participants.

It found statistically significant but modest associations between conspiracy belief and broad classes of epistemic, existential and social motivations, with considerable heterogeneity.

The authors also found weaker associations in experimental than correlational designs.

That is very different from:

“People believe conspiracies because they are stupid or mentally ill.”

The research does not justify that caricature.

XXX. Pattern Perception

Humans survive by recognizing patterns.

The same ability can occasionally connect events that are unrelated.

A series of studies published in the European Journal of Social Psychology found associations between conspiracy or supernatural beliefs and perceiving meaningful patterns in random coin tosses, chaotic paintings and unrelated events.

The fake-cities thread offers a vivid example of why this becomes complicated.

Each adjacent idea really does share something with the next:

empty buildings connect to vacant property;

vacant property connects to speculation;

speculation connects to financial crime;

financial crime connects to shell corporations;

shell corporations connect to secrecy;

secrecy connects to intelligence programs;

intelligence programs connect to surveillance;

surveillance connects to wireless sensing;

wireless sensing connects to biological presence;

biological presence connects rhetorically to “bio-frequency”;

mind-control history connects to MONARCH lore;

MONARCH lore connects to synthetic soldiers;

synthetic soldiers connect to apocalyptic conflict.

The narrative does not jump randomly.

It travels along semantic similarities.

The problem is that semantic similarity is not the same thing as causal evidence.

XXXI. Emotional Intensity and Narrative Power

The original account is also structured like a very effective horror narrative.

It begins with an everyday anomaly.

Buildings are emptier than expected.

Then the anomaly expands.

Whole districts seem wrong.

Then social isolation appears.

Contacts stop responding.

Then physical threat.

Someone is supposedly outside the door.

Then dream imagery.

A faceless child.

Then revelation.

The people are puppets.

Then technological enclosure.

Wireless infrastructure can find the remaining humans.

Then abrupt termination.

The story ends before resolution.

Psychological research has found that conspiracy narratives can evoke greater emotional intensity and entertainment value than non-conspiratorial alternatives and that these qualities can relate to stronger belief under experimental conditions.

This does not mean the OP deliberately engineered a story to manipulate readers.

Human memory itself narrativizes.

Stories naturally acquire beginnings, escalation and meaning.

The methodological lesson is narrower:

emotional vividness should increase our attention, not our estimate of truth.

XXXII. Fear, Hypervigilance and Ambiguous Events

Once a person becomes convinced that a powerful hidden actor is tracking him, ordinary ambiguity changes character.

The unfamiliar car is no longer merely unfamiliar.

The neighbor's noise becomes surveillance.

A failed phone call becomes interference.

A stranger looking twice becomes an operative.

A disturbing dream becomes communication.

The experiences can be sincerely reported while the causal interpretation remains uncertain.

We should not diagnose the anonymous person in the OP.

We have no clinical interview, medical history or even identified individual.

But we can apply an important general rule:

An experience and its explanation are two different pieces of information.

“I heard someone outside my door”

is an experience report.

“The organization I exposed sent an operative to my door”

is a causal inference.

“I dreamed about a faceless child”

is an experience report.

“The dream revealed the existence of puppet humans”

is another inference.

Investigation should preserve the first while independently testing the second.

XXXIII. Memetic Contamination

Internet folklore is not produced in isolation.

Ideas move between:

  • fiction
  • paranormal communities
  • occult literature
  • political conspiracy spaces
  • games
  • films
  • dreams
  • personal recollection

Once a motif becomes culturally available—

  • faceless people
  • NPCs
  • synthetic humans
  • underground bases
  • targeted individuals
  • secret frequencies

—later testimony containing that motif is not automatically independent corroboration.

The witnesses may still be sincere.

But independence has become uncertain.

This produces what we might call memetic contamination.

If twenty people independently describe an unknown phenomenon before hearing one another, that may be significant.

If twenty people describe the same phenomenon after ten years of memes, videos and forum discussions about it, the convergence has a different evidentiary value.

The same principle is used in witness investigation generally:

contamination does not prove fabrication, but it complicates independence.

XXXIV. The Language of Epistemic Pressure

Several recurring forms of conspiracy language deserve attention because they shape how readers evaluate absence of evidence.

“Memory-holed”

does more than say material cannot be found.

The Memory-Hole Examined: Factchecking, Cognitive Bias & Biblical Discernment in Online Conspiracy Culture – Library of Rickandria

It supplies a cause for its absence.

“They don't want you to know”

makes disbelief evidence of successful concealment.

“Disinformation agent”

can turn a critic into confirmation of the theory.

“Too many coincidences”

converts the feeling of improbability into an unstated statistical argument.

“Do your own research”

can be an excellent instruction—or a way of avoiding the burden of supplying reproducible sources.

“Not a LARP”

is a declaration of sincerity, not authentication.

The inverse rhetoric also deserves scrutiny:

“LARP.”

“Schizo.”

“Obviously fake.”

Those labels can terminate inquiry just as effectively as conspiracy rhetoric can insulate it.

Neither side gets to replace evidence with social signaling.

XXXV. The Self-Sealing Theory Problem

A theory becomes methodologically dangerous when it can explain every possible outcome.

Suppose the videos exist.

That proves the theory.

Suppose the videos disappear.

That proves suppression.

Suppose the buildings are busy.

Those people are actors.

Suppose the buildings are empty.

That proves the fake city.

Suppose investigators find no shell company.

Ownership was hidden successfully.

Suppose they find a shell company.

That proves concealment.

Suppose an insider comes forward.

Confirmation.

Suppose nobody comes forward.

The conspirators are too powerful.

Under such rules, no observation can reduce belief.

That does not automatically mean the theory is false.

Real covert actors do destroy evidence and deceive observers.

But each rescue explanation needs independent support.

Otherwise the theory stops predicting the world and begins absorbing it.

XXXVI. Bayesian Reasoning Without the Math

There is a simple way to think about prior conspiracies without misusing them.

Before learning about Room 641A, somebody might assign a very low probability to the proposition:

“A telecommunications company may secretly duplicate large streams of network traffic for government surveillance.”

After learning about documented surveillance history, that proposition should no longer seem fantastical.

History has changed our expectations.

But now suppose somebody says:

“The vacant building on my street contains a machine that extracts consciousness.”

Room 641A should increase our willingness to investigate hidden technical infrastructure.

It should not dramatically increase belief in consciousness extraction, because Room 641A supplies no evidence for that mechanism.

In plain language:

Old conspiracies can teach us what kinds of deception humans are capable of. They do not identify the contents of a new allegation.

XXXVII. Red-Teaming Our Own Conclusion

A responsible paper should state where its own analysis could fail.

The most important weakness is that we have not recovered the original alleged fake-city video corpus.

That means we cannot honestly write:

“The videos showed ordinary traffic.”

We have not seen them.

We cannot establish:

“The creator edited people out.”

The thread contains that allegation, but not the forensic demonstration.

We cannot establish:

“YouTube deliberately deleted the channels.”

No channel names or enforcement notices have been recovered.

We cannot even establish whether several different channels independently conducted the experiments or whether later commenters are blending several older internet stories.

This unknown is important enough to preserve.

If an archive is later recovered containing raw, timestamped, geographically identifiable footage, this paper's assessment of the original observation should be reopened.

That is not weakness.

That is what falsifiability looks like.

XXXVIII. YouTube and the “Digital Purge”

The thread's memory of tightening YouTube policy has some historical basis, but the details matter.

YouTube states that it began demoting sensationalistic tabloid content in recommendations in 2015 and began specifically demoting “borderline” misinformation in recommendations in 2019.

Its own explanation includes conspiracy material among examples of borderline content and states that demotion reduced recommendation-driven watch time substantially.

This supports:

Discoverability of conspiracy content changed.

It does not establish:

YouTube deleted the particular fake-city channels because their claims were true.

  • Recommendation suppression
  • policy removal
  • copyright termination
  • voluntary deletion

and loss of search visibility are different events.

Without the channel records, the thread collapses them.

XXXIX. Known Unknowns

Several questions remain genuinely open.

The identity of the original video creator remains unknown.

The alleged target buildings remain unidentified.

The full archive of original footage has not been recovered.

The claimed traffic-loop observations cannot presently be authenticated.

The alleged editing debunk cannot presently be authenticated either.

We do not know whether the OP witnessed the original material personally or remembers reposts and derivative discussions.

We do not know how many distinct channels existed.

We do not know what “fully in use” meant in the original investigations.

We do not know whether observers monitored every significant entrance.

These are not footnotes.

They are the center of the evidentiary problem.

A future version of this paper should change if those unknowns change.

XL. Ethics: How Not to Investigate This

The fact that a hypothesis can be tested does not justify every way of testing it.

Researchers should not trespass.

They should not break into utility infrastructure.

They should not follow private individuals for extended periods.

They should not publish home addresses of employees.

They should not accuse identifiable businesses of laundering money without documentary grounds.

They should not infer criminality from ethnicity, nationality or religion.

They should not confront strangers believed to be “synthetic” or part of a hidden network.

They should not harass people because they appear repeatedly near a building.

The aim is to gather evidence, not manufacture danger.

A building can be investigated through:

  • public observation
  • corporate records
  • permits
  • property databases
  • court files
  • planning records
  • public utility information
  • archived websites
  • lawful requests

If the theory is true, good methodology helps reveal it.

If the theory is false, good methodology protects innocent people.

Either way, discipline wins.

XLI. Biblical Discernment: What Scripture Actually Gives Us

This paper now changes categories.

Everything above has concerned:

  • historical evidence
  • methodology
  • technology
  • economics

or psychology.

What follows concerns biblical interpretation.

Those categories should not be silently merged.

The Bible does teach a supernatural worldview.

It teaches:

  • God
  • angels
  • Satan
  • evil spirits
  • miracles
  • prophecy
  • false prophets
  • spiritual deception
  • divine judgment

A biblical Christian therefore has no obligation to begin from philosophical materialism.

But acknowledging the supernatural does not give us permission to identify every unexplained event as supernatural.

Scripture itself repeatedly demands discrimination.

XLII. “Prove All Things”

The controlling text for this paper is:

“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”—1 Thessalonians 5:21

The immediate context concerns Christian conduct and, especially in verses 19–21, the handling of spiritual matters and “prophesyings.”

That makes the text especially relevant to a thread where empirical speculation becomes spiritual proclamation.

Paul does not say:

Despise everything unusual.

Immediately beforehand he says:

“Despise not prophesyings.”

But neither does he say:

Believe everything presented spiritually.

He says:

“Prove all things.”

The biblical posture is examination followed by retention of what survives examination.

XLIII. The Berean Pattern

Acts records that the Bereans:

“received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”—Acts 17:11

Notice the combination.

They were receptive.

And they checked.

Readiness of mind and verification are not enemies.

That is a useful model for material that contains a mixture of real history and unverified interpretation.

XLIV. Multiple Witnesses

The law of Moses includes a principle that serious accusations should not rest on a single witness.

Deuteronomy 19:15 requires a matter to be established through multiple witnesses.

The judicial context of that passage should be respected; it is not a modern laboratory manual.

But the principle is still instructive.

Anonymous repetition is not necessarily independent testimony.

If Poster B merely repeats Poster A, we still have one source.

If ten channels copied one original video, we do not have ten independent observations.

If three investigators independently select the same building, map every entrance, publish raw footage and obtain the same result, the evidentiary picture changes substantially.

Biblical concern for corroborated testimony sits comfortably beside good investigative method.

XLV. False Reports and False Witness

The ninth commandment says:

“Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.”—Exodus 20:16

And Exodus 23 begins:

“Thou shalt not raise a false report…”

These commands matter profoundly in conspiracy culture.

A Christian pursuit of hidden wrongdoing cannot be built on careless accusation.

If we accuse a named business of laundering money, a person of being an intelligence operative, an ethnic group of controlling property, or a stranger of being a synthetic agent, truthfulness still applies.

We cannot defend false or reckless testimony by saying the alleged enemy is evil.

The righteousness of the goal does not make an unsupported accusation true.

XLVI. Scripture Really Does Warn About Deception

Matthew 24 begins Jesus' answer to the disciples with:

“Take heed that no man deceive you.”

Later in the discourse, Christ warns of false Christs and false prophets and repeatedly warns his hearers not to believe deceptive claims merely because they are dramatic.

Christians differ substantially on the detailed eschatological interpretation of Matthew 24: which portions concern the destruction of Jerusalem, which concern the future coming of Christ, and how those horizons relate.

We do not need to settle that dispute here.

The relevant point is modest:

Biblical expectation of deception should make believers more discerning, not more suggestible.

The existence of false signs means spectacle alone cannot authenticate a claim.

XLVII. “Try the Spirits” Is Not Permission to Believe Every Spiritual Explanation

John writes:

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God:

because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”—1 John 4:1

The context concerns false prophets and confession concerning Jesus Christ, not urban occupancy statistics.

The verse should therefore not be stripped from its setting and turned into a generic technical procedure.

Yet it clearly establishes something relevant:

Christian spirituality is discriminating spirituality.

A statement becomes no more trustworthy merely because it invokes:

  • God
  • Christ
  • demons
  • prophecy

or spiritual warfare.

This directly applies to the thread's move from underground bases and synthetic soldiers into declarations such as

“God is Love”

and

“Christ is King.”

Those Christian propositions do not retroactively authenticate the empirical claims surrounding them.

And the empirical weakness of the preceding claims does not make the biblical propositions false.

Again, categories matter.

XLVIII. Dreams in Scripture and Dreams on the Internet

Scripture unquestionably contains dreams through which God communicates.

Joseph dreams.

Pharaoh dreams.

VCG - TRACK 3 - PHARAOH — GOD VS. EGYPT - BABYLON'S LAUGHING PIT by VCG | Suno

Nebuchadnezzar dreams.

image.png

VCG - TRACK 4 - NEBUCHADNEZZAR — THE GOLDEN KING - BABYLON'S LAUGHING PIT by VCG | Suno

Joseph, husband of Mary, receives divine warning in dreams.

Therefore:

“God never communicates through dreams”

would not be biblical.

But Scripture does not teach:

“Every intense dream is a revelation.”

The anonymous story's faceless-child dream may have been sincerely experienced.

Nothing in the biblical text gives us authority to identify that dream as divine, demonic, prophetic or technologically induced simply from its imagery.

A biblical worldview leaves supernatural causation possible.

Biblical humility refuses to claim revelation God has not authenticated.

XLIX. Possibility Is Not Identification

This principle deserves to be repeated because it joins the methodological and biblical halves of the paper.

Demons exist in Scripture.

Therefore this unexplained noise is not automatically demonic.

God has spoken through dreams.

Therefore this dream is not automatically prophecy.

Governments have run secret programs.

Therefore this building is not automatically a secret facility.

Wireless signals can detect human presence.

Therefore 5G is not automatically reading consciousness.

Money laundering through property exists.

Therefore this vacant tower is not automatically a laundering operation.

Propaganda villages have existed.

Therefore this downtown district is not automatically a Potemkin city.

Possibility gives us permission to investigate.

Identification requires evidence.

L. The Thread's Apocalyptic Turn and the Christian Response

One branch eventually moves toward nuclear conflict and the assertion that there will be no peaceful solution except death.

Whatever its intended rhetorical tone, that conclusion is incompatible with the Christian ethical direction given in Romans 12:

“Recompense to no man evil for evil.”

“If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.”

“Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves…”

“Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”

Biblical teaching about judgment is not permission for private vengeance, revolutionary bloodlust or fatalistic celebration of death.

Christians may expose wrongdoing.

They may oppose injustice.

They may testify against corruption.

But eschatology does not turn hatred into holiness.

LI. The Antisemitic Tangent and Scripture

The thread eventually introduces a crude ethnic caricature implying that Jewish people regard the world and Gentiles as property promised to them.

That statement is not necessary for any part of the fake-city hypothesis.

Nor is it a faithful summary of Scripture.

Psalm 24 begins:

“The earth is the LORD’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”—Psalm 24:1

The Old Testament contains real covenantal land promises to Abraham and Israel.

Those promises are not equivalent to a doctrine that every Jewish person owns every Gentile or every nation.

The appearance of ethnic scapegoating near the end of a sprawling conspiracy discussion is psychologically instructive:

once a master narrative becomes broad enough, preexisting social enemies can be inserted into explanatory gaps.

That is not discernment.

LII. What Christianity Adds to Investigative Method

Scripture does not give us the square footage of an office building, the packet structure of Wi-Fi CSI or the beneficial ownership of a condominium.

Those are empirical questions.

What Scripture contributes is a moral and epistemic framework for how truth ought to be pursued.

From Proverbs:

Hear before answering.

Search the opposing case.

From the law:

Do not raise false reports.

Do not bear false witness.

Corroborate serious accusations.

From Acts:

Receive claims with readiness while checking them.

From Paul:

Prove things and retain the good.

Do not repay evil with evil.

From John:

Do not believe every spiritual claimant indiscriminately.

From Christ:

Expect deception.

That is a remarkably balanced framework.

It provides no support for intellectual complacency.

It also provides no support for reckless certainty.

LIII. A Proposed Replication Project

If researchers genuinely want to pursue the core fake-city question, the most productive next step is not another theory thread.

It is a preregistered observational study.

The project would identify perhaps twenty office buildings in several cities:

ten selected because public claims suggest unusually low occupancy, and ten matched controls.

Before observation, researchers would document expected occupancy using public tenant directories, available lease data, corporate websites and property records.

Every lawful/public access point would be mapped.

Observations would occur across multiple randomly selected weekdays, with observers blinded where practical to whether a building was target or control.

Raw continuous footage and counts would be archived.

Researchers would distinguish:

pedestrian entry,

garage vehicle entry,

service traffic,

deliveries,

employees,

visitors where identifiable without intrusive surveillance,

and uncertainty.

After collection, the group would compare observed activity with the expected range.

If anomalies persisted, the second phase would investigate:

  • corporate ownership
  • permits
  • liens
  • lawsuits
  • planning records
  • public utilities

Most importantly, the researchers would publish negative results.

If the allegedly empty building turns out to be busy through the garage, that belongs in the archive.

Truth-seeking means allowing the experiment to disappoint the theory.

LIV. What Evidence Would Change Our Conclusion?

A good theory specifies what would make us believe it more.

Recovery of the original channels would matter.

Authenticated videos would matter.

Identifiable buildings would matter.

Continuous footage covering all entrances would matter.

Occupancy documents contradicting observation would matter.

Independent replication would matter.

Corporate networks connecting multiple anomalous buildings would matter.

Insider documentation could matter enormously if authenticated.

Technical schematics describing undisclosed systems would matter.

Procurement records, utility anomalies and financial transfers could matter.

Physical biological evidence would matter for synthetic-human claims.

Repeatable experimental evidence would matter for consciousness-sensing claims.

Conversely, if allegedly empty buildings repeatedly show ordinary occupancy when systematically monitored, confidence in the broad theory should fall.

If somebody's belief cannot fall under any imaginable observation, we are no longer conducting an investigation.

LV. The Archival Problem

The fake-city story is unusually vulnerable to internet decay.

YouTube channels disappear.

URLs change.

Videos become private.

Forum threads expire.

Search engines stop indexing old material.

Reuploads lose metadata.

Screenshots become detached from origin.

Therefore any serious continuation of this project should maintain an archive containing:

Item

Preserve

4chan thread

HTML/PDF capture, timestamp, post numbers

This is mundane work.

It is also how mysterious internet stories become historical evidence instead of folklore.

They would make its reasoning inspectable.

LVII. Final Assessment

After working through the thread carefully, the strongest conclusion is neither dramatic belief nor dramatic debunking.

It is this:

The thread identifies real features of modern life, but it does not successfully demonstrate the master narrative it builds from them.

Cities really do contain enormous amounts of underused space.

Some luxury urban property really is maintained as non-primary housing.

Real estate really is vulnerable to laundering through opaque ownership structures.

Institutional investors really do hold significant shares of single-family rentals in certain metropolitan markets.

Cash businesses really are used in laundering schemes.

Governments really have conducted secret and abusive programs.

Telecommunications infrastructure really has been implicated in covert surveillance.

Wi-Fi really can sense human presence and behavior.

Ghost cities really exist.

All of that is true enough to make naïve complacency untenable.

But the following have not been established by the evidence reviewed:

that major cities are systematically populated by staged traffic;

that the remembered YouTube videos proved large-scale fake occupancy;

that those channels were purged because they discovered the truth;

that empty towers are generally laundering machines;

that telecommunications sites are biological siphons;

that Quayside contains the alleged surviving synthetic sub-grid;

that wireless infrastructure reads consciousness;

that Project MONARCH possesses the documentary status of MKULTRA;

that pseudonymous testimony establishes synthetic soldiers beneath cities;

or that spiritual/apocalyptic interpretations supplied by anonymous posters are therefore biblical prophecy.

A person who rejects those conclusions need not believe institutions are honest.

And a person who investigates them need not believe they are true.

That may be the most important distinction of all.

LVIII. Conclusion: Real Secrets, False Bridges

The “Fake Cities” thread succeeds at one thing extraordinarily well:

it demonstrates how easily a modern conspiracy narrative can be built from material that is not entirely false.

That is what makes it worth studying.

If everything in the thread were fabricated, there would be little to learn.

Instead, it brings us face to face with a more difficult epistemic problem.

What do we do when someone places:

a true statistic,

a documented conspiracy,

an unexplained observation,

an anonymous memory,

a legitimate technology,

a metaphor,

a frightening dream,

an occult narrative,

and a biblical statement

beside one another?

The temptation is to treat proximity as unity.

It is not.

Room 641A does not prove biological siphons.

MKULTRA does not prove MONARCH.

Wireless sensing does not prove consciousness harvesting.

Ghost cities do not prove synthetic populations.

Real-estate laundering does not prove every empty tower is criminal.

Biblical spiritual warfare does not identify a modern telecommunications facility as demonic.

And the weakness of those connections does not make Room 641A, MKULTRA, wireless sensing, ghost cities, laundering or spiritual warfare imaginary.

The work is to separate them without losing them.

That requires a higher standard than ordinary “debunking,” because debunking is often satisfied once it finds one error.

It also requires a higher standard than conspiracy culture, because conspiracy culture is often satisfied once it finds one truth.

A serious researcher must continue after both.

When the thread is right, say it is right.

When the thread exaggerates, identify exactly what changed.

When the evidence is missing, say “unknown.”

When a skeptic makes an unsupported accusation, hold the skeptic to the same standard.

When an extraordinary hypothesis is testable, design the test.

When Scripture speaks, quote Scripture.

When Scripture does not identify a modern phenomenon, do not claim that it does.

And when new evidence arrives, be willing to revise the paper.

That attitude is not unbelief.

It is not gullibility.

It is disciplined inquiry.

The Bible supplied for this study puts the principle in eight words:

“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”—1 Thessalonians 5:21, KJV

The purpose of proving all things is not to destroy everything.

It is to discover what remains.

Appendix B — Research Status as of September 2026

This paper should be considered version 1.0, not a declaration that every possible piece of evidence has been exhausted.

The largest outstanding research priority is recovery of the original alleged YouTube material.

Until the channels, videos or exact building locations are identified, the originating fake-city observation remains unresolved rather than disproved.

Any future recovered archive should be subjected to frame-level provenance review, location verification, temporal verification, entrance mapping, occupancy-record comparison and independent replication before either the original claim or the skeptical editing allegation is upgraded from U — Unverifiable.

That unresolved status is intentional.

A fact-check should not manufacture certainty simply because the paper needs an ending.

Soli Deo Gloria.
